Heart centred counselling focussing on mind, body, and spirit conncection

Welcome

Exploring counselling often begins with a sense that we may need support in navigating the complexities of life.
Our wounds present themselves in many forms that cause pain and frustration, some of which may include anxiety, depression, anger, relational conflict, being overwhelmed, or feeling stuck. Traumas, known and unknown, can impact how we navigate our lives, which can lead to suffering in mental and physical ailments. Having the courage to look at these patterns allows the space to heal and create new opportunities.

A key element of counselling begins with feeling that your experiences are deeply and compassionately understood. This evolves through making a meaningful relational connection with someone you can trust to listen, respect, and hold space for you and your story. I hope that here you may get a sense of my approach, and how it might help you shift mental states and perspectives to move forward.
Feel free to reach out and explore whether working together fits your goals.

I am an approved service provider for the First Nations Health Authority (FNHA), and Work BC Employment Counsellor.

I have been an educator for 30 years, the last 13 of which have been in counselling. I live in the Cowichan Valley, the traditional lands of the Quw’utsun people. Here I share my life with family, friends, and community - enjoying the beauty of the land through cycling, hiking, and paddle boarding.

Why Unity?

  • I believe that the feeling of freedom arises when we experience the unity of mind, heart, and spirit working together

  • The unity of working in relationship fosters growth and strength

  • It is through unity that our personal healing positively benefits ourselves and all others in our lives

Healing

Life brings us challenges - sometimes in the form of unexpected events, or aspects that evolve over time. As children we may experience challenges and traumas that impact how we develop, and the coping strategies we engage in going forward. We are always doing our best in each moment, but often these strategies create patterns that overwhelm us as our older selves, and hinder our potential growth. Many counselling approaches support our innate ability to heal, by helping us to courageously look at our blocks and release the unhelpful patterns, especially by following the guidance of our bodies. When we step into our healing, we step closer to the power of our authentic selves.

Unity Counselling can assist adults and youth with:

  • depression

  • anxiety

  • trauma

  • grief and loss

  • self-esteem

  • feeling of being 'stuck', or unfulfilled

  • anger

  • relationship issues

  • setting boundaries

  • personal growth

Approach

I use a person centred, interdisciplinary approach to best suit an individual's situation and goals through a variety of modalities. I have training and experience in therapeutic theories including:

  • Somatic Experiencing - Levels I and II

  • Somatic Attachment Psychotherapy (training in progress)

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

  • Focusing Oriented Therapy (training in progress)

  • Solution Focused

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

I am a compassionate, open-hearted, open-minded witness, which can be a catalyst for the change you desire:

  • helping to unlock the healing power that is innately within all of us

  • moving toward what gives you fulfillment, personal growth, and freedom

  • being your best self, thus opening to the joy of experience

Individual counselling at Unity Counselling

I work with adult and youth (15 +) clients of all cultures, ethnicities, sexual orientations, gender identities, and abilities.

Following our consultation, if determining that we make a great team, we will spend designated and intentional 1-on-1 time together through individual therapy. This time allows us to explore and process many aspects of your life and inner experience and co-create a therapeutic plan to reach your intentions.

Therapy can be done in person in the Cowichan Valley, or a secure virtual meeting, or by phone. Virtual and call sessions may be done with clients in other regions.
